The green side of life in the National Forest of Buçaco is one of the most fascinating places.
Buçaco Forest is a thick wood, often secular, where the trees are giant size and are rich in essences, perfumes and glow. Cedar, spruce, redwood, linden, elm, laurel, beech, rodoendros, giant ferns, acacias and ash, from America, Australia, the Himalayas or many other places in the world, planted and tended by generations of Carmelite monks who lived in seclusion and contemplation for over 200 years, between 1630 and 1834, this magnificent altar of nature, sacred and protected by bull of Pope Urban VIII in 1634.

Mata do BuçacoThe forest by running the roads, there is a transparency of light and freshness of flavor almost mystical divine chapels there that evoke the Steps of the Cross, votive chapels, some haunts, formerly of the friars in meditation retreats, small lakes and many sources.

There is this wonder called the Valley of the Ferns and that place is idyllic cold source, or on top of the sacred hill, the viewpoint of Cruz Alta, with marvelous panorama of the forest to keep his heart in the Carmelite Convent and the sumptuous Palace Buçaco Hotel, former home of kings and men in our days of receiving state and who, in search of tranquility, it is like to host one of the finest romantic hotels of old Europe.

The Military Museum was opened in Buçaco September 27, 1910, at the one hundredth anniversary of the Battle of Buçaco, which summarizes the courage and heroic action of the Anglo-Luso during the Peninsular War. Expanded and renovated in 1962, has valuable collections of weapons, uniforms and equipment used in the Battle of which stands an artillery piece with its garrison.

In panels, alluding to the brilliant feats of arms performed, recalls with emotion and gratitude for the brave and determined conduct of all Units Portuguese who took part in the Peninsular War (1808-1814). Its action is owed the defense of national identity and independence.
